The 2022 Charles County Public Schools (CCPS) Summer School Program begins Wednesday, July 6. The program includes a mix of remedial courses and original credit courses. All remedial credit courses will be delivered in person and original credit courses will be virtual through the Apex Learning and Zoom online platforms.

Costs for all summer courses have been waived by CCPS this year and transportation will be provided. Students may take up to two make-up courses or one original credit course during summer school. Summer School includes seven original credit courses and over 22 remedial course offerings.

All classes run from July 6 to August 4, Monday to Thursday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The summer school graduation ceremonies will take place on August 5.

Registration Information

Starting next month, school counselors will work with parents and students to indicate which summer courses a student is eligible for. Parents will complete registration for make-up classes and original credit classes online using their ParentVue account. The registration process will begin on Monday June 6th and end on Friday June 24th.

Make-up course information

Remedial instruction will be in-person at Westlake High School for students in grades 9-12 and at Thomas Stone High School for students in grades 6-8. The original credit courses will take place virtually. Fridays are reserved during the summer courses to allow students to attend classes. For students to receive credit, they must attend all class sessions and pass all assigned assignments, quizzes, and assignments.

Original credit course information

The teaching of the original credit courses will be done using Apex and Zoom. Teachers will deliver live lessons via Zoom from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Monday through Thursday. Fridays are set aside during summer classes for students to complete asynchronous assignments. All Zoom meetings are mandatory. For students to receive credit, they must attend all Zoom meetings and pass all assigned assignments, quizzes, and assignments in Apex. There is no fee for original credit courses this summer.

Original credit courses available

  • English III – This course is for students who have met all requirements to graduate at the end of their junior year and have an approved junior diploma application on file with their home school.
  • English IV – This course is for students who have completed four years of high school and are not part of their graduating cohort or class. Students must obtain approval from the responsible school counselor to enroll in this course.
  • Fit for Life/Health – Available to current CCPS students who have completed one year of high school.
  • Personal Financial Literacy – Offered to current CCPS students who have completed one year of high school.
  • Geometry – Offered to current CCPS students who have completed one year of high school.
  • Exploring Computer Science – Offered to current CCPS students who have completed one year of high school.

Original credit courses taken during summer school may not meet NCAA Clearinghouse requirements.
