MSUKALIGWA – Consumers in the local municipality of Msukaligwa will receive a special incentive to have their debt written off, until August 31.
This is possible for all eligible consumers, allowing “one-off incentives per consumer” with debt ending December 31, 2020.
According to a notice published by the municipality, this aims to improve service delivery and instill a culture of payment for services rendered.
The municipality encourages consumers to participate in this initiative.
Mr. Mandla Zwane, spokesperson for the local municipality of Msukaligwa, confirmed that all municipal account holders whose accounts are overdue from March 2020 to December 31, 2020, are eligible for amnesty.
The single incentive per household will be implemented as follows:
• A one-off agreement with the consumers concerned who will immediately reimburse 50% of their unpaid debt as of December 31, 2020; the balance (the remaining 50%) is immediately amortized; or
• A consumer who makes a request repays 50% of the debt over a period of up to eight months from the date of the request, but no later than August 31, and the remaining 50% of their debt arrears will be written off, once the settlement is finalized and provided that the current account is up to date.
For example, if a consumer owed R200 by December 31, 2020 and pays R100 or more, the remainder, up to an additional R100, is written off.
The municipality said consumers must honor their checking accounts at all times.
According to Zwane, consumers are advised to come in and / or call the municipal finance department first to state their case and sign an agreement before making a payment.
He said after signing an agreement, consumers who make payments using their banking apps should remember to use their municipal account number as a reference.
