OHIO’s Scripps College of Communication has added a new graduate degree to its suite of online “stackable” certificates.

The Media Tools for Professional Communication certificate is designed for professionals of all backgrounds and experience levels and teaches fundamental skills in a variety of digital storytelling platforms.

Scripps College Dean Scott Titsworth said the ability to use digital storytelling tools has become a critical component for professionals in all industries.

“Unless you have a background in media, you probably haven’t learned how to produce a podcast or create a professional-looking video package,” Titsworth said. “This certificate will provide the foundation people need to start creating the kind of product that employers and customers expect.”

The 12-credit-hour certificate can be completed on its own or combined with another certificate and capstone experience to “stack” toward the online Master of Communication degree. Courses last seven weeks and focus on three main short storytelling platforms: video production, animation, and podcasting.

Applications are accepted for all entry terms throughout the year. No GRE is required for admission and a 5% scholarship is available for alumni and military service members.
