Fort Collins City Manager Darin Atteberry resigns to take office at Boulder-based Elevations Credit Union

City Manager Darin Atteberry is stepping down from his position since 2004 to assume a leadership role at Elevations Credit Union. His last day with the city will be August 20.

Atteberry will become president of the northern Colorado market and senior vice president of government affairs and strategic relations for the Boulder-based financial institution, which has more than $ 3 billion in assets.

Atteberry joined the City of Fort Collins in 1996 as Deputy City Manager and assumed the role of City Manager in 2004.

“It has been an honor and a privilege to serve Fort Collins for the past 25 years,” Atteberry said in a statement. “I am deeply proud of the work my 2,500 colleagues and I have accomplished and am delighted to have the opportunity to serve our community and our region in a new way.

Atteberry helped lead the city through major changes in its operations, helping it win a prestigious Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award in 2017, a feat accomplished twice by Elevations Credit Union.

He was named Entrepreneur of the Year by Colorado State University College of Business in 2013 and in 2016 he was elected a Fellow of the National Academy of Public Administration. Atteberry was recently awarded the Colorado Governor’s Medal of Citizenship, “recognizing him as a leader who serves the public with innovation, operational excellence and progressive vision,” according to a press release announcing his departure from the city.

Fort Collins Mayor Jeni Arndt in a statement expressed gratitude to Atteberry for his tenure and contributions.

“We have just celebrated 25 years of working Darin in the city,” said Arndt. “He’s been a key leader here for almost a generation. He helped shape who we are today. I am so grateful for his love and commitment to our community and wish him and his family all the best.

At Elevations, Atteberry will be responsible for developing relationships with stakeholders and potential partners inside and outside the organization to achieve strategic goals in northern Colorado.

“We are delighted to welcome such an innovative and creative leader to Elevations Credit Union to accelerate our growth in northern Colorado and beyond,” said Gerry Agnes, President and CEO of Elevations Credit Union, in the press release. “Darin is an extraordinary leader who is deeply connected to the community of Fort Collins and to the leaders of Colorado. There is no better person to lead our work in Northern Colorado and our corporate-wide government affairs and strategic relationships. “

Elevations has expanded its footprint in northern Colorado, recently opening a new branch in Old Town Fort Collins, its third in the city.

City council will appoint an interim city manager in the coming weeks.
